The theory of the 5 elements during the seasons
The theory of the 5 elements in Chinese Medicine.
Summer - the Fire element
The setting sun.. the moon which is there... the sea, the dune and the trees...
So many elements of nature to contemplate...
We too, you, me, the others, are part of this nature and live at its rhythm.
Chinese Medicine has retained 5 elements that correspond to our seasons. Summer is the element of fire.

Each element of it is associated with meridians, channels which cross our whole body, where the vital energy "prana" circulates in order to bring to all our organs what they need. Each meridian is attached to an organ.
during each season; during each element, certain meridians will come forward. During summer; the element fire, it is the meridians of the heart, the pericardium, the small intestine and the triple heater which will play a more important role. This is how the sessions will be oriented more towards these organs in order to make you live better in harmony with the Fire element...

Since the end of August, we have been in a period
transition between summer and autumn.
Earth's products have all come of age,
those of summer are always present and those of
autumn begins to arrive before the rest of
Winter.
In traditional Chinese medicine, this is the period
of the Earth element that speaks to us of letting go of what
which no longer serves us. These are the meridians of
stomach and spleen which are associated with this element
that we will strengthen in order to make us more serene
during this transition where the light begins to
decrease...or if we are not anchored, we can
scatter in all directions...
So try to anchor yourself in the earth the most
possible !
The Earth element intervenes before each beginning of
season, 18 days before, thus allowing the transition
preparing ourselves to get through the season better
arrived .

The Earth element transition between summer and autumn
Autumn, the Metal Element
Autumn is well established now...The days are shorter, the leaves put on their colorful finery and illuminate our less bright and shorter days....
These falling leaves enrich the earth by providing it with the minerals that it will carefully preserve to enrich its reserves during the time of rest represented by winter.
In Chinese medicine we move into the Metal element which corresponds to our Autumn season. The leaves that fall from the trees and the rain will constitute the compost that will go into the earth to create precious elements such as minerals, copper, gold, silver, magnesium, calcium ... in order to may all that live in the earth be nourished and protected during the long rest of winter.
For us, it's a bit the same thing, we have to reserve our energy to get through this coming season. It is not by forcing on the few reserves that we have left that we are going to redo them. We also have to draw on our reserves without wasting them in order to be able to keep them all winter. Yin yoga teaches us this by allowing us to alternate denser activities without hurting ourselves, without burning out.
For us, it will be the meridians of the lung and that of the large intestine that we will have to help more particularly to accomplish their tasks.
The lung, so that it can ensure our immune defences, strengthen circulation in the lymphatic system and invigorate us. Did you know that 30% of our energy comes from the air we breathe? That the more oxygen our cells receive, the more energy we have?
When we breathe well, we can know our true value and trust in it, such as precious metals stored in the earth and minerals such as magnesium and calcium. We will thus be able to find our own treasures buried within us. The postures favoring the opening of the rib cage and the lungs will allow you to fill up with oxygen by developing the capacity of your lungs!

By tending to the large intestine, the colon, we are going to allow it to help release whatever has been stuck in our body and mind, the regrets, relationships and experiences that have left us spiritually constipated, polluted and energetically blocked to make room inside our body rid of these "weights".
The Metal element, when balanced, acts like a knife or a surgeon's scalpel to extract and cut through everything that is toxic in us and needs to be rid of...
Yin yoga allows us to live better in harmony with this nature so as not to suffer it but to live at its own pace and ours.
Yin yoga is very appropriate, contemplation in nature or in poetry too...

Winter, the water element
The winter solstice is December 21. Here we are. Winter is here...
The trees are bare, the earth is bare... Nature is at rest, the earth and the animals too...
Stillness, silence and darkness become predominant.
The shortest day and longest night just happened.
What about us?
The Water Element which corresponds to our winter season invites us inside ourselves to rest. Although being the most yin element of the 5 yin elements, it is at the same time very adaptable. It is well known that water has no form. She takes that of the container that contains it. It can be a calm ocean, the currents of a rapid, boiling water or a river with wide meanders...
As we move forward into the most yin, silent and still time of the year, we begin to run into security issues. If our ability to discern safety is unreliable, we will exhaust our adrenal glands and lose our sense of vitality, of our energy keeping us in a vicious cycle of anxiety. From there it becomes difficult to let ourselves flow comfortably within ourselves.
Fear in our contemporary society takes these different forms:
Am I going to have enough? Is my future secure? Am I safe? Can I trust?
Fear or failure. Fear of what others think of me. Fear of disappointing others by not being up to it. Fear of not being able to continue...

The Water element is related to the sense of hearing. Yet listening is a skill that requires attention, concentration and discernment to be able to derive meaning from what one hears.
During the classes of this period we will learn to listen carefully to each other and to listen to the source of our deep intuition as well as that of our inner wisdom that we have inherited. You know that little inner voice that sometimes whispers very relevant things in your ear but that we reject for fear that they are not good enough.
We are going to learn how to build a "reservoir" inside us to contain this water in order to be able to pacify it if necessary, to prevent it from overflowing and spreading everywhere...
We will also see "tools" to help us get through this season better.

Spring, the Wood element
Why do I always talk about the seasons?
This is because in Chinese Medicine the cycle of the seasons is very important. It influences our body and our mind because being part of nature, we too are subject to these cycles.
You know very well that our energy is not the same according to the seasons.
Yin yoga is inspired by these seasons to tell us how to better "align" our body and mind by learning to live to the rhythm of them.
In Chinese medicine, we have 12 meridians, "highways" of energy that pass through our body and depending on the season some meridians will be more important than others for our energy because they will be more stressed than others at a given season.
Wood is the wood from trees that allows us to breathe better, the wood that nourishes us with its fruits, the wood that warms us, the wood that shelters us, our furniture is made of wood...
In spring, the Wood Element which was nourished thanks to its roots firmly anchored in the earth which provided it with its minerals coming from the decomposition and transformation of the leaves fallen in autumn and with the water received. This transformation took place during the winter under the ground in hibernation and with the light and the warming of the temperatures, the Element wood is on the point of rising and extending.
The energy in us has this tendency too and we are going to help it by starting by grounding, because this energy is so strong that if it is not grounded in something stable, it can bring anger, frustration.

Because we too have been in hibernation and have thought about projects during the winter and if we go all over the place, we risk being disappointed with the outcome of some of them which could well lead us to frustration and anger...
Creating space in your body for the energy from the liver and gallbladder meridians to flow well is going to be important. The gallbladder working together with the liver, we will help them to detoxify and strengthen these organs in order to be able to detoxify the body.
At the moment we are still in transition between the two seasons, the two elements, it is a question of recovering energy, of getting rid of frustrations or feelings of anger.
It's been a month now that we are in spring, The liver meridian is always to be stimulated, it is now the turn of the gallbladder meridian to be stimulated because it will allow us to undertake the actions that we have chosen by dividing them into small pieces that it will be easier to put in place in order to have a clearer vision of things and a vision of hope !
The spring was strange this year very rainy and very cold until the end of May. Nature has resumed its hibernation, we haven't and we are tired.
However, nature has adapted and regained its strength to start again!
The yin sessions of this period are all focused more particularly on these two meridians so that we can spread with ease within this season!
within this season!
See you soon on the mat with sessions where we will also work thanks to two tennis balls on strategic acupuncture points in order to multiply the effects of each session!
